SUMMER CAMPS

Aims of the Diabetes Summer Camp

The Diabetes Camps program is designed to help enhance the quality of life for young people living with diabetes. This program fosters relationships that will help participants expand their diabetes management skills and increase knowledge of the disease.

Good mental health starts in childhood...

Being mentally healthy during childhood means reaching developmental and emotional milestones and learning healthy social skills and how to cope when there are problems. Mentally healthy children have a positive quality of life and can function well at home, in school, and in their communities.

Research shows that children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes are at increased risk of mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and stress-related disorders and that these co-morbidities can get in the way of optimal care.

Why should I attend Diabetes Summer Camps?

  • Our campers rest in a comfortable holiday environment
  • They learn the concepts of care and control, increase their compliance with treatment
  • They share and compare their knowledge and experience
  • Especially children and young people with diabetes increase their self-confidence away from their families
  • They eat healthy with meals prepared under the supervision of our expert dietitians, they learn meal planning
  • During the camp, they are under the supervision of a physician, specialist dietitian and diabetes nurse

It's not unusual that a new diagnosis of type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes can bring on feelings of shock, sadness, or anger. Some kids are eager to express their feelings, while others may need encouragement to share what's on their mind. Be available when your child wants to talk.
